Remember road trips before Google Maps? There was, of course, Mapquest. But I’m talking about road trips pre-Mapquest. A paper map, a highlighter, it was a whole thing to go somewhere.
Now? It’s too easy. Want to visit your friends in another city? Plug it into Google Maps. Google Maps has completely revolutionized navigation in the digital age. That’s why it’s no surprise that companies across all industries are embedding Google Maps into their websites.
Except in healthcare. In healthcare, Google Maps embedded into your website could lead to a HIPAA violation. It operates in much the same way that Google Analytics and embedded YouTube videos do.
That leads us right into the first topic of today's newsletter...
Product Update
Google Maps, as mentioned above, can be problematic for healthcare organizations if they embed it into their websites. Plenty of healthcare orgs are throwing caution to the wind and are still using it for the SEO and user experience benefits.
At Freshpaint, we’re planning to solve the Google Maps HIPAA problem for healthcare organizations. BUT, we need your help.
If you use Google Maps on your website and are willing to chat with our product team about it, respond to this email and let me know!

Freshpaint's Compliant Corner
You ever have a moment when someone says exactly what you’re thinking? That happened with us recently when Andy Waldrop, from WebMD Ignite, dropped this nugget:
“Having a privacy first mindset, especially in healthcare, is the right approach. We think it's not only better for consumers but we think it puts the health system in better control of where you choose to share your data.”
Well said, Andy. That just sums up the whole reason Freshpaint exists, and why WebMD Ignite chose to partner with Freshpaint. We had a short conversation with Andy and Derek Bell, WebMD Ignite’s SVP of Growth and Operations, about why they chose Freshpaint. Unsurprisingly, there were a lot of things they both said that had us nodding our heads in agreement.
AI is the name of the game in 2024. Becker’s dropped their list of marketing trends for hospital marketers in 2024 last week, and unsurprisingly, most of the list focuses on AI. AI in search, AI in communications, AI in analytics, AI in video. It’s all AI.
Okay, it’s not all AI. A lot of the responses from healthcare orgs around the country don’t even mention AI. Some, like Geisinger, are focused on fully unlocking their Martech stacks, which is easier said than done…but something tools like *coughFreshpaintcough* can help with.
